Piece of the week #4: Vintage Chanel Silk Scarf
Piece of the week #4
Vintage Chanel Silk Scarf
Inherited from my mom, who inherited it from her mom, who inherited it from her mom, who bought it in France!
How to wear: Very rarely can you go wrong by adding a gorgeous Chanel scarf to your look. It’s the easiest way to dress up a neutral dress or jeans & a tee. I usually drape it around my neck in lieu of jewelry, but occasionally tie it in a bow over a solid top.

Style Quote #4
“I'm attracted to people who make this effort in knowing what suits them - they are individual and stylish.”
-Vivienne Westwood
Piece of the week #3: 1950s Gold Chain Necklace
Piece of the week #3
1950s Gold Chain Necklace
Inherited from Grandma in 2001, which started my fascination with vintage jewelry.
How to wear: I wear this necklace with almost anything (shown above during my color blocking stage last summer). It’s one of my favorite pieces, not only because of it’s history, but also because it transitions seamlessly from day to night. It’s usually the first thing I pack for a vacation because it works with my beach gear just as well as my LBD. It was worn as a single chain when my Grandma owned it; I tied a knot in it to make it my own.
Come On, Vogue
Anna Wintour has a complete set of Vogue covers leather bound in her personal library. For the less fortunate, online is the place to go.
Vogue.com subscribes are able to search the full collection of magazine covers via the company’s online archive…which is mobile optimized as well.
If you don’t have an account with Vogue, the comic book treasure trove, coverbrowser.com, is an unexpected alternative. The Vogue archive is surprisingly well stocked and dates back to 1916.

My favorite is this iconic 1957 cover by renowned fashion photographer, Norman Parkinson. It’s titled “Autumn Fuchsia” and features none other than Audrey Hepburn. Naturally, I have a replica framed in room.

Piece of the week #2: 1930s Amber Ring
Purchased at the Paris Vintage Shop in Royal Oak, MI
How to wear: the amber/silver combo allows this ring to be versatile. I wear it alone with nude polish, or as a compliment to chunky bracelets. The architectural design on the silver setting makes this piece extra special.
Hats off to vintage
I love this image of a classic Givenchy hat, photographed by Frank Horvat in 1957.

Although it’s hard to mess with a classic, here’s Anya Caliendo (couture milliner) take on the original for Novemember’s issue of International Vogue.

Here’s a shot of my favorite Christmas gift this year: a collection of antique jewelry packaged in a vintage Saks hat box.

The Little Guide To Vintage Shopping

The Little Guide to Vintage Shopping was given to me by my brother’s girlfriend and took my appreciation for vintage to the next level. In the pocket-sized manual, vintage-clothing dealer Melody Fortier illustrates just what to look for, what to avoid, and what to pay when you’re perusing the racks at fashion boutiques & flea markets. There’s also great insider tips for beginning shoppers like quality evaluation and care advice. My favorite section, Reinventing the Past, shows how to update your retro finds by pairing them with new pieces (something I can certainly relate to).
Le Swing Vintage Shop
From classic brands like Chanel, Vuitton, & St.Laurent, to retro-chic clothing from local designers, Le Swing offers an impressive assortment of antiques at boutique prices. My mom and I found some incredibly unique pieces like original 1920s headpieces, vintage leather camera bags and even an old-fashioned shaving kit for the guys. It must be true that good things come in pairs, because Le Swing’s sister store, Blow, is right around the corner.
